As we enter into the NEW YEAR, Rosh Hashanah or Yom Teruah, we are approaching the most Holy Day of the Year, Yom Kippur. This is the day that only the High Priest could enter into once a year before God for the sake of repentance, forgiveness, and total cleansing of all sins for the children of Israel for the following year.
This can be an interesting historical insight, but for believers in Jesus Christ we must ask ourselves if there is any significance of this time of year for Christians?
I have found being in ministry among a variety of denominational churches there is a focus with Christians to getting non-believers saved by having them say a prayer of repentance and confessing that they are a sinner, then asking Jesus to come into their heart. We refer to this experience as "being born again" using the scriptures found in John 3:3-7 to justify the theology.
If you've been reading any of my teachings for a while you will have realized that I like to dig deep to know the truth of what God is saying, or am I receiving the interpretation of mankind while in various historical time periods or cultural diversity perception. The main challenge I have with what is written in John 3 and the concept of "being born again" is that John did not write this until AFTER Jerusalem fell in 70AD, and AFTER all of the other disciples' writings including Paul. In fact, in relationship of time to much of the new Testament, John's writing was a whole generation later around 90AD. If this is so important as the door opener for the Christian faith and to go to heaven, shouldn't it have been mentioned first hand to all those going through the transition stages of Judaism, paganism, and Christianity in the initial development when Jesus rose from the dead? Yet, we do not find this mentioned at all in Matthew, Mark, or Luke's Gospels.
Then we find in the writings in the book of Hebrews that Jesus Christ is our High Priest today. He went into the Holy of Holies for ALL needing to do this only one time, instead of annually. So when did this happen? As Christians we celebrate the Passover Feast with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus as the First Fruit, but all that took place in the spring. He literally fulfilled the ceremonial obligations of the High Priest for the Lord's Feast in the spring, but going into the Most Holy Place is part of the Lord's Fall Feast Days...hmm.
If we accept that Jesus Christ is our High Priest today, and has already paid the price for atonement of our sins, there must be a reality check that ALL the Feast Days of the Lord have been fulfilled by Jesus Christ once and for ALL, both spring and fall.
So why have we not seen the Lord's return yet? In my younger years of being brought up in the church I was taught that the fall feast is when Jesus would be coming back. Then next thing I know I'm back celebrating Jesus as a baby in a manger, and the fall feasts are passed by again.
Are we missing some keys and treasures of the Lord that are part of the fall feasts? Are there some historical events the church should consider incorporating into their theology for blessing, uniting, and growth as the body of Christ today?
When the Jewish Holiday New Year begins as Yom Teruah, it literally is known as "day shouting/blasting" which is translated as the Feast of Trumpets. For ten days from this moment until Yom Kippur it was a call for the children of Israel, God's children identified in the Old Testament, to do an intense self-evaluation and time of introspection. These were known as the "Days of Awe" or ten days of repentance. These were days of much fasting and praying seeking their hearts for forgiveness of sinning against God and man. It was to be a personal commitment so that the Truth of God became the truth that you would know, and not the justification ideology that comes from ego. When the High Priest stepped before God on the Day of Yom Kippur, the heart desire was to have the offering acceptable and pleasing to YHVH, the MOST HOLY GOD.
Jesus Christ did this for each of us over 2000 years ago. What a great blessing!! However, through time we have forgotten the intensity of the preparation for the blessing of Divine LIFE to flow into our lives today. We have the head knowledge and celebration of the Passover season, but we don't incorporate the High Holy Days of the fall into our personal journey as "being born again!"
In Exodus 32, 33 and 34 we are told about a situation of when all of Israel greatly sinned against God. Moses interceded for them, in the position He held before God, however, his humanity side needed some encouragement and guidance on how to instruction these rebellious people. Rather than bringing the wrath of God down, Moses went up to God to get to know more depth and understanding of who YHVH was to share with the children. Often times we have hidden treasures in a relationship with someone that are yet to be discovered because our own perception gets in the way. This is what was going on with the Israelites. They were perceiving God Almighty through their Egyptian background of gods instead of through the God of the Universe.
"The Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. And he said, if now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance." (Exodus 34:5-9).
Moses was given the key to unlock and remove Egypt out of the children of God, and wisdom on how to BE an overcomer in the midst of their trials. It begins in THE NAME. This was first given to Moses in Exodus 3:14 as "I AM that I AM", I will BE that I will BE.
Then He says that in the NAME is MERCY, GRACE, PATIENCE, and overflowing GOODNESS/KINDNESS…and TRUTH. When we are "Born Again" we come into our Christ identity as NEW creations in Christ Jesus. We have within ourselves HIS NAME, NATURE, CHARACTER, ESSENSE, POWER, and AUTHORITY. We love the outcome of mercy, grace, patience, goodness, and kindness, but our challenge is with TRUTH.
"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32).
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6).
I've emphasized a few words in these two scriptures to help grasp the intensity of what God is saying to Moses in Exodus 34. The word "know" is not just intellect knowledge, but a Divine experience as a husband and wife consummating their marriage. Jesus identifies Himself with the same name of God Almighty – YHVH when He says "I AM." The words "way, truth, and life" are words of pathway and unveiling to give birth to God identity…Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col. 1:27). Jesus desires intimacy as a husband with His Bride, the church, however, she must be in a position to receive His impregnation of His NAME, the seed of LIFE. This is not for children.
It is THE TRUTH that will make us free from sin and death, not the truth that we know. THE TRUTH is found in the NAME – YHVH whom we identify with, or not identify with depending on how we use the words "I am" when we speak.
The Days of Awe were the times created for mankind to do self-reflection and cleansing with the desire to stand naked before their Heavenly Father. Truth is an integrated part of compassion and reconciliation allowing the vulnerable position of our heart to be exposed to God. Often times the perception that we have about ourselves or about something we may hide. We may feel we would let God down in some way, or another person to admit our thoughts for fear of not being accepted, or feeling less valued in the eyes of others.
We may have little voices in our head saying things like: "I let you down, I can't do anything right, I have failed, I can't be trusted, I'm not mature enough, I'm unworthy."
The creator of the universe – our parent in Heaven who is LOVE – is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent poured into each of us His omnificent – His creative power for LOVE to BE tangible. The creator NAME of GOD – I AM that I AM existed before sin manifested and continues to exist after sin was established. He releases His Love first, and then desires for His Love in us to Be released back to Him via His creative power in His name in us called CHRIST.
God will still be our parent of LOVE after sin in the same LOVE He was before sin. When we acknowledge His name in us in the Days of Awe we find apology is part of the letting go of what is NOT in His NAME and nature. Apologizing to God, to others, and even to ourselves for believing a lie or partial truth. Letting go of fear and control. Letting go of false identity. Letting go of our ego so that THRUTH of His presence as our Heavenly Father can be functioning in His glory through us on the earth. The Father's love for each of us will survive any sin – known or unknown. It is His love that draws us to Him which causes the repentance action or turning around from going in the wrong direction away from Him.
His NAME is Compassionate. This is a like the womb life of a baby being nurtured. The Holy Spirit nurtures us even when we are still in ignorance and darkness as a baby in the womb of the mother. The womb is nurturing the baby because of the future, not because the baby has done anything. Our Heavenly Father is always focused on our potential creative energy He placed in us to nurture with compassion, not judging our past. What is a necessity that needs to be placed in your path to grow?
His NAME is GRACE. He loves us "just because" He is LOVE. We don't do anything to deserve it.
His NAME is Patience. He is slow to anger, in fact, this pace of slow is a position in time which doesn't exist in His eternal presence. It is a temporary phrase for man, but not God. Man can be seven or seventy when he becomes aware that God is his heavenly Father, but to God it doesn't matter.
His NAME is GOODNESS & KINDNESS. There is no fear, no negative thoughts, no judgment or condemnation.
The presence of God in His NAME – YHVH – provides a platform for LOVE to flow and Truth to be unfolded. When Truth and Love flow together from the heart, or throne room of the Father's NAME in us, the world around us will experience the attributes as a pathway of reconciliation to God via apology and forgiveness. When we come to Him in this relationship of trust and courage, we have the assurance that He is faithful to cleanse us from all our unrighteousness so that TRUTH can be unveiled into the relationship LOVE desires.
God desires for us to have a relationship with Him as Father, a true parent. His love for us survives sin just as we as parents should have instilled in our children's hearts that nothing can separate them from our love.
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" (Romans 8:35)
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39).
Do you trust God enough that you can be real before Him?
We learn in parenting of how to be proud of our children in their successes, but do they also know our love for them didn't change in their failures? Do they know when they fail in expectations that our love as their parents is still there in the same capacity of compassion, grace, patience, and kindness? If not, maybe it's because we didn't receive it from our parents, and maybe they didn't receive it from theirs creating a curse of generations instead of the love and grace of the Father.
Jesus came to set the captives free and bring restoration of the fullness of the relationship of God as Father to all mankind. I challenge you this year to seek the wisdom and nurturing of the Holy Spirit to unveil any areas of your life that are keeping you from receiving the fullness of TRUTH in a relationship with the Almighty Creator of ALL as your Heavenly Father.
Rosh Hashanah is a New Year. There are ten days from the beginning of the new year to Yom Kippur. It is the celebration of THE DAY – Christ in you united as one body in Christ Jesus. Jesus invites us to partake in remembrance of this Holy moment by the communion of drinking from one cup the blood of His sacrifice, and eating of the one body of Christ recognized as the bread of LIFE.
When we drink and eat in the unity of oneness in Christ as ONE NEW MAN – CHRIST – with Jesus as the head of the body we do this in remembrance of what Jesus did for each of us as He took Himself into the Holy of Holies for our sins.
"let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep." (1 Corinthians 11:28-30).
Jesus gave us the assurance that we can come boldly to the throne room of GRACE where our Heavenly Father desires us to be with Him. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He will pick us up when we fall. He will forgive us when we miss the mark of our full potential and purpose He created in each of us.
Let these Days of Awe become your greatest moment in His Eternal Time allowing the SON to set you free today.
