Counting the Omer
"Moses said, "This is the thing which the Lord commanded, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. 'And Moses said unto Aaron, "Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your generations. (Exodus 16:32-33)
"And you shall count unto you from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that youbrought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be complete: Even unto the morrow after the seventh Sabbath shall you number fifty days; and you shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord." (Lev.23:15-16)
This period is known as the Counting of the Omer.
An omer is a unit of measure. On the second day of Passover, in the days of the Temple, an omer of barley was cut down and brought to the Temple as an offering.
Jesus the Bread of Life (John 6)
25When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?"
26Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval." 28Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" 29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." 30So they asked him, "What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: "He gave them bread from heaven to eat." 32Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." 34"Sir," they said, "always give us this bread."
35Then Jesus declared, "I am (the finish of the count) the bread (supernatural) of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day (Resurrection Day). 40For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life (God Life, I AM), and I will raise them up at the last day (Resurrection Day)." Why was it important to count the days from the bringing of the omer until Shavuot? It has to do with harvest, and bringing of the omer was the first fruit harvesting of the new grain crop. Why is this important to Christians? Jesus Christ is the first fruit, but notice this verse is plural. "But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept"Â (1 Corinthians 15:20). "Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures" (James 1:18).
The preparation of counting omer was not considered a hardship to God's children, but a desire and passion. One of the most beautiful images of Shavuot, or Pentecost, is that of the marriage between the Messiah, the groom, and Israel, the bride. Counting the omer would be a period of courtship.
I believe there are hidden treasures in our Christ life that the church has yet to discover which are found in counting the omer. The Messianic branch of the Christian faith know about this personal blessing opportunity linked between Pesach or Passover, which commemorates the Exodus, and Shavuot, which commemorates the giving of the Torah and God's Spirit. They are reminded that the redemption from slavery was not complete until they received the Torah (God's Word). They are also reminded that without God's Spirit they cannot keep the Torah.
The Red Sea Passover brought out the separation of Truth of who we are from the world which the Temple diagram is the outer court. Jesus died once and for all. The Jordan River Passover experience testifies ones discipleship and trust in the Lord as a priest separating the many parts of HIS body to personally cross over in their own free will in order to come together with one voice according to the Lord causing the walls of Jericho (death and hell) to fall. Unfortunately, there is still something of the believer's inheritance of the Kingdom of God we are to bring into this world because we have yet to manifest raising the dead as Jesus did. In Hebrews 6:1-6 we read,
"Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
3And God permitting, we will do so.
4It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,
5who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age
6and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace." This Passover season that we have recently celebrated I found very unique. I enjoy using two calendars for my everyday life, one that marks Christian holidays, and the other that marks Jewish holidays. I noticed this year that on Monday, March 25, 2013, the Jewish calendar was celebrating Passover Eve. The other calendar would be celebrating Passover on Friday, March 29, 2013. Then on March 27, 2013, from the Jewish calendar would be Resurrection Day, but on the Christian calendar it was Sunday, March 31, 2013. I had a conversation with Father God and asked Him which calendar was more accurate and did I miss the Resurrection by not celebrating it on the proper day? The response I received from Father with a humorous voice, "I AM the RESURRECTION NOW." I started chuckling inside because the question I was really asking was coming from observing the feast of the Lord. The Children of God were required to come to Jerusalem three times a year to celebrate Passover, Shavuot, and Tabernacles. I simply wanted to honor this according to the proper observation and celebratio commanded. But then I heard Jesus say, "I AM the RESURRECTION LIFE NOW." Ok, why was that necessary Jesus for you to tell me that? Holy Spirit teach me TRUTH in the midst of this time situation of the calendars?
I was first taken to 2 Kings 13:14-21where Elisha shows up after 50 years of being silent. He knows his time on the earth is about the end, and his concern is that he carries a blessing of a double portion, but he has no heir to pass on this anointing. When the king of Israel cries out "My father, my father..." Elisha knows that this is his heir for these were the words spoken by himself when he received the mantle of Elijah:
When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!
15Elisha said to him, "Take a bow and arrows. So he took a bow and arrows.
16Then he said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow. And he put his hand on it, then Elisha laid his hands on the king's hands (transfer opportunity of the anointing Elisha had).
17He said, "Open the window toward the east (going forward in time), and he opened it. Then Elisha said, "Shoot! And he shot. And he said, "The Lord's arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Aram; for you will defeat the Arameans at Aphek until you have destroyed them.
18Then he said, "Take the arrows, and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground, and he struck it three times and stopped (he only took care of himself, not the position he held as king).
19So the man of God was angry with him and said, "You should have struck five or six times (the number of the beast of man, antichrist spirit), then you would have struck Aram (ALL your enemies) until you would have destroyed it. But now you shall strike Aram only three times.
20Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites (seducers of TRUTH) would invade the land in the spring of the year.
21As they were burying a man, behold, they saw (were fearful) a marauding band; and they last (threw) the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones (DNA) of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet. THE BRIDE is the body of this one new man, CHRIST, whom Jesus is the HEAD (Isaiah 61). The Holy Spirit shared with me that when we are born again we enter into our new creation birthed out of Tabernacles, not Passover. It is in the oneness of God that He knew us before we were conceived in our mother's womb (Jer. 1:5).
Before Passover the CHILDREN of GOD are in bondage and slavery or ignorance and darkness, but they are the CHILDREN of GOD, they just don't know the fullness of what that is all about. After Jesus died once and for ALL, the state of MAN was in ignorance and darkness whether Jew or Gentile. We go through seasons of development, training, discipline that has placed boundaries for us to abide in this world as babies and children. We come to Passover; we now have the ability to crossover from those growing up in the world's boundaries to unveil our personal identity with Jesus Christ that is set apart from the world's patterns. This would be like a bar mitzvah or the puberty years. Jesus has washed our feet making us all clean (John 13:8-10). From this point in time we are to begin counting the omer, but the only thing we know of why we count the omer is from what we were taught as children, yet our bodies begin to process things differently than they did as a child. Out of our belly begins to flow rivers of living water that are cleansed by our heart and our heart begins to speak with an authority that produces life or death. We war within ourselves as the Shavuot experience takes us back to oneness with the Father in Tabernacles studying and learning how to put on the mind of Christ. What we have is a MAN, male and female that was born into Tabernacles, created in the image of the Father, had their feet washed by Jesus to prepare them for their Passover into LIFE, stirred the creative organs that reproduce bringing LIGHT out of darkness, Shavuot. Then giving the new creation LIFE the Father's Torah.
The MAN spends time in oneness Tabernacle with the Father to become a son to do the Father's business where the heart and mind of MAN (male and female) are in unity with Christ. It is now the time for the bride to make herself ready! This year, the first Passover was for the Old Testament, Messianic believers in Yeshua. The second Passover is for the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. They both have a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus/Yeshua from death, hell, and the grave...now what? Jesus could have had His glorious ascension to the Father and sent the Holy Spirit immediately saying, "That's it, and I'm done. I did my part, take over now Holy Spirit, but we know that He didn't do this. Instead, after He completed His personal work of restoration, He continued to appear for 40 days after Passover to over 500 people as the RESURRECTION LIFE of CHRIST while they were counting the omer. Why did Jesus need to appear and teach as the RESURRECTION LIFE? We are one in Christ coming through Passover in preparation for Pentecost. This is the time Christ taught the disciples AS the Resurrection Life, the finished work of God for 40 days. They then waited for 10 days until they received the Holy Spirit. The disciples did not have a clue of what it would look like when Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit which was a gift to them from the Father, but they would have noticed the pattern found in counting the omer. Unlike the English language, every Hebrew letter had a numeric value application which we find in Psalm 119. They would have known that this was day forty when Jesus ascended and that on day 50 was the giving of the Torah which Jesus said He came to fulfill. " For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled" (Matthew 5:18). It is no coincidence that this occurred during the season of counting the omer for 49 days and then Jubilee where everything was restored. My life verse is 1 John 4:17, "As He is, so am I in this world today." It is the apostolic window the Lord has given me to edify and build up the body of Christ in the unity of HIS faith. I share my nuggets to help unite the body. I do not hold a position of understanding or having the fullness of revelation on counting the omer given to me alone. I believe this connects with the bride's (male and female MAN) responsibility to making themselves ready, shedding off their old identity in their mind, and being prepared for consummating the personal marriage with the Beloved as one identity. Each number has a meaning that builds upon the number 7 = rest in GOD. Again, this is a personal preparation of intimacy. Each bride of Christ only gets to be a bride for one day, and then she/he (MAN) is a wife. The Holy Spirit has given me a WORD, a seed of Resurrection LIFE identity as I have been counting the omer. I am sharing my WORDS as tools, but what the Holy Spirit teaches you and prepares you for is to transform YOU into His image by renewing your mind. It begins with supernatural, unconditional LOVE, "for God so loved you, that He gave.." (John 3:16). This releases the supernatural LIGHT wave of JOY that brings atmosphere change. When the Resurrection LIFE is with you there can be no sorrow. The list at the end are WORDS and Scriptures that the Holy Spirit has given me for the WORD to become flesh in me. I would hear the voice of my Beloved Jesus say, "I AM______, and then I had to say the same, "I AM______. Be ready for battle with religions, cultures, and customs creating your own Battle of Armageddon between your ears. I believe the 10 days between the assention and Pentecost has a connection with the parable of the 10 virgins that Jesus talked about in Matthew 25. The number ten denotes Divine order where Divinity has responsibility to MAN, and MAN has responsibility toward GOD. The bride must make herself ready with oil in her own lamp. The earth is ready for the out pouring of the Holy Spirit in us as it was with the first disciples uniting together in one accord around the world, but the preparation includes counting the omer as being in Resurrection Life. Each counting will unveil riches and glory of Christ in you that you were not aware of before. "The word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken"Â (Isaiah 28:13). Below are the words and Scriptures the Holy Spirit gave me. I share these as tools to encourage personal intimacy for yourself between Jesus Christ as the Resurrection Life today. Your words and Scriptures will probably be different, but have a basic foundation that is built on knowing the Father as LIFE, LOVE, LIGHT, and NOW through the Resurrection Life and Power of Jesus Christ. Count all other issues minor compared to the intimacy of knowing the power of HIS Resurrection (Phil. 3:8, 10). This year in 2013 Pentecost will be celebrated beginning on May 14, 2013 to May 17, 2013 depending on the calendar. Never before in history has MAN had the opportunity as we have today to come together in one accord as one body/bride ready for the Bridegroom to come. Most of the organized church will miss this wedding union Jubilee celebration. Remember it is a personal preparation as a first fruits company, not a child of God, a son of God, or a disciple of Christ celebration, but a BRIDE.
"And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Hallelujah: for the Lord God Almighty reigns" (Revelation 19:6). "The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come" And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost" (Revelation 22:17).
